This is a very personal story of two rings and a pendant. I have a Brother and a Sister, both younger than me. Our father passed away when I was 9, my Sister 6 and my Brother 3. My Dad always wore a signet ring that my Mum had given him for the first Xmas they were together. She kept it when he passed and for my Brothers 21st birthday, we had it refurbished, engraved and cleaned. He wore it all the time to the point that it became very worn. On our opening night, Mum brought the ring up to Brett to be fixed. Brett did a magnificent job and we gave it back to my Brother just before Xmas. During the refurbishment though, we had to make a choice, replace the onyx because it was chipped or keep it. Brett came up with a brilliant idea, replace it and make a pendant out of the old onyx. We thought this was a great idea as we could then give the pendant to my Sister. We did this last week on her return to Australia from America on a holiday. She knew nothing about it and she was a very surprised and tearful and she loved it.
The story does not end there as you could guess from the title. Just after we gave my Brother back his ring, my Aunty rang us and said that she had found Dads signet ring. What signet ring we all said, we have just given back Dads signet ring to my Brother! The one that had to be cut off his finger after his accident with the gas boiler, said our Aunty. What...??
The story being that my Dad had been lighting an old gas boiler that blew up and the original signet ring that had been given to him from Mum had to be cut off his finger by my Grandfather due to his fingers swelling up. We all didn't know that it had been kept by my Grandmother, my Mum included who had replaced the ring with the one that we gave my Brother. It was only halve a ring but, we gave it to Brett who again did a magnificent job on repairing and refurbishing it. I now have that ring, my Sister has the pendant and my Brother the second ring. All of us now have a little something from our Dad to keep and remember him by. Thank you Brett from all of us.
